A Tribute to Numismatic Legend Michael "Miles" Standish

Today we reflect on our love, respect, and admiration for our friend and colleague, Michael “Miles” Standish. Miles worked selflessly to promote and encourage others, both in the numismatic community and in his extensive charitable work.

We are fortunate to have known him as a warm friend, and to have worked with him on our exclusive Standish signature certification labels. His memory will always be treasured.

It would be difficult to overstate Standish’s importance to modern numismatics. He worked at every major coin grading service, serving as vice president at both PCGS and NGC, and personally graded literally millions of coins in his career, including some of the world’s top rarities.

Michael “Miles” Standish, 1964-2023

He was an important force in making third-party coin grading an indispensable part of both rare and modern coin markets, and was an early innovator and champion of pedigreed and signature label coinage. An award-winning author, his books covering Morgan dollars and Silver Eagles are standard reference works in the numismatic community. Coin World has named him among the 10 most influential people in numismatics between 1960 and 2020.

Recently, Standish had turned his efforts to designing coins and medals, as well as philanthropy, focused on children’s healthcare.
