2021 Mid-year New Releases

While many of the Mint’s core program coins are introduced early in the new year, new releases continue throughout the year, often including coins with special interest to collectors. Here are some issues with mid-year release dates that we recommend to collectors.

High Relief Liberty Gold
Release date: August 19

The latest proof coin in the $100 High Relief Liberty Gold series features the most unique design in the series, and is limited to just 12,500 strikes, lower than any previous issue.

As you might guess, the available inventory sold out from the Mint almost immediately. We have been lucky to secure ten specimens awarded a perfect PF-70 Ultra Cameo grade from NGC, with certificate label hand-signed by 38th Mint Director Edmund C. Moy, and Early Releases pedigree.

The proof-finish coin is struck in stunning high relief, bringing to life Augustus Saint-Gauden’s vision for such a coin. His original design for the iconic Double Eagle proved too difficult for the Mint to produce in 1907, but modern techniques allow perfect striking of coins with the kind of breathtaking depth the sculptor envisioned.

The coin contains one Troy ounce .9999 pure gold. The Mint has limited release to just 12,500 coins, making them elusive for collectors to obtain.

American Eagle Palladium Proof
Release date: September 2

The 2021 American Eagle One Ounce Palladium Proof Coin is a unique collectible. Each coin contains one ounce of .9995 palladium. The finishes for this coin alternate each year.

The obverse (heads) of this design features a high-relief likeness of “Winged Liberty” from the “Mercury Dime” obverse designed by world-renowned designer Adolph A. Weinman. In keeping with the original coin design, inscriptions are “LIBERTY,” “IN GOD WE TRUST,” “2021,” and Weinman’s distinct initials as an artist mark.

The Mint will release no more than 12,000 of these coins, ensuring their status as a sought-after collector coin.

American Eagle Silver Uncirculated “burnished” Coin
Release date: September 9

Like the regular issue and proof coins before them, these 2021 uncirculated finish Eagles will bear the exciting new Type 2 design, the first and only design change in the history of the modern Eagle coin program. Thanks to modern design technology, the updated obverse is a closer reflection of Adolph A. Weinman’s original vision and includes the addition of his traditional artist mark.

The Mint will strike just 175,000 of these coins, a low number for any Silver Eagle issue. The uncirculated finish comes from the special burnished planchets used to strike the coins, and they are often referred to simply as “burnished Eagles.”
